AUREC’s largest investment project: Capacity expansion by around 70% Subsidiary in Bernburg gears up for the future
Bernburg, November 22, 2024
AUREC is implementing its largest investment project to date by significantly expanding its waste processing capacity to 350,000 tons per year. This represents an increase of almost 70% compared with the previous capacity of 210,000 tons.
This plant expansion not only increases the capacity it can accept, but also brings the plant’s technology right up to date. AUREC is preparing itself for the future and, by implementing this measure, is making a valuable contribution to disposal safety. AUREC has invested more than 16 million euros overall in expanding and optimizing the plant.
In particular, the investment project included a significant expansion of the hall space for receiving and storing bulk materials. Three further silos provide additional capacity for accepting pneumatically conveyable materials, such as flue gas cleaning residues from waste incineration plants.
Dr. Robert Wermuth, Managing Director of AUREC comments: “We have been present at the Bernburg site since 1992 when we commenced mineral waste processing in order to produce mining backfill materials for underground recovery. The significant investments for expanding the plant underline our claim to have the highest production standards while simultaneously creating new opportunities for sustainably combining mining safety and waste disposal security.”
The mining backfill materials produced in Bernburg are transferred directly to the adjacent Bernburg salt mine belonging to K+S Minerals and Agriculture GmbH, where they are used underground.
